There are a variety of Occupational Therapy evaluation methods and tests that are designed to assess different areas of functioning including visual-motor, visual-perception, gross motor, fine motor and sensory integration.

All testing is conducted by licensed Occupational Therapists who are trained to administer each test. We encourage parent input before and after any testing is conducted to assure the needs of your child are best served.

Testing conducted is standardized. A child’s performance on each of these tests is compared with the average performance of other children in his or her age group. In addition to these tests, clinical observations are made of muscle tone, reflexes, postural responses, coordination, and hand skill development.

The following are some of the most widely used assessments administered during a Formal Evaluation / Second Opinion by our Occupational Therapists.

  • Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2nd Edition: BOT2
  • Visual Motor Integration
  • Developmental Test of Visual Perception, Part II (DTVP II)
  • Morrison F. Gardner Test of Visual-Perceptual Skills (non-motor)
  • Sensory Profile by Winnie Dunn, Ph.D., OTR, FAOTA:

When even more information is needed, we have a certified therapist licensed to give the SIPT:

Sensory Integration Praxis Testing (SIPT):
The SIPT is a set of 17 standardized tests which measure aspects of sensory processing and praxis – the ability to form an idea, plan the action, and execute it.

SIPT is a diagnostic test to determine a child’s type of Sensory Integration Dysfunction.  It is appropriate for children between the ages of four and ten.  Results of the testing not only provide a Sensory Integration Dysfunction Prescription, but valuable suggestions and recommendations for classroom and life situations.
